Started out with a Bullseye and progressed to Anser style but always wanted a Scotty. My wife got me a Newport 2.5 and hard to change it out now. Like to try a mallet 5.5. Looks very nice and nothing rolls it like a Scotty.

I look at it kinda like buying clothes: you have to get something that fits you but if you don't like the way it looks, doubt it lasts long in your bag.

Go get fit and see what works out best for you. Good luck on whichever Scotty you choose!

Always love this topic!! The answer to the age old question of blade or mallet is … BOTH!! Sometimes you just need a ‘change of scenery.’

In all seriousness, it all comes down to stroke, feel, and confidence. Like many, I thought my stroke was straight back, straight through and required a face-balanced putter. Several years ago, one of the tour pros at my course was on the green when I was practicing. He suggested a putter with a little toe flow. I went to a 5.5 and it’s been in the bag for 2+ years. This is from a guy who has A LOT of Scotty’s and used to change frequently.

So my answer has already been shared above … get an evaluation/analysis from someone you trust and PRACTICE! I also subscribe to the theory that different conditions can require adjustments to weight.

I have an older 5.5, an older Newport 2, and have recently picked up a Studio Select Newport 2.5. In doing a fitting for the latest one, it was a toss-up between the new 5.5 and the Newport 2.5. I tried both at a nearby store and the blade just worked better for me. I started long ago with an Acushnet Bullseye and a png Anser that I switched between depending on green speed. The Bullseye was my gamer for most of 40 years but I'm not as good at hitting that small sweet spot these days so I've gone more modern.

Putter are quite personal. But toe flow, arc, path make a huge difference in which putter you should game. I started with Newport, went to a Fastback, and on some advice tried a Phantom 7.5. Love it, putt in some extra practice time on squaring the face and lag putting. Last round hit 28-29 putts and probably dialed up 150’ in made putts yesterday.
  6. I like the blade look much more than a mallet BUT my stoke tells me i need a mallet. I use an old Odyssey 2 ball which i have dialled in nicely though.
Would love a Scotty Blade one day
  7. I can't seem to hit my Newport to save my life. I always go back to my old California Sonoma that I've had for years. I do plan on picking up a Phantom this year and giving it a go though.

Got the combination of both in my Concept X. Love it! I used to play the Phantom 5.5 but needed a change.

Hello all, I have tried many mallet putters and baldes, but the putter that I putt the best with is hands down the Scotty Newport Select 2

Have you tried doing a fitting? That might tell the real story vs. Feel

I have used blade, mallets and even a 2x4 to putt with. For me it's all about being comfortable when standing over a putt. Having a putter that fits your stroke is vital. Does it feel and look good to you? Is it the proper length, lie and loft? Do you have a grip that fits your hands?

While we all take the time and money to fit our woods and irons, very few will do the same with a putter. For me what works is a heavy head, a flat lie with a specific grip. On top of that it's practice, practice and when you think you've got it.... more practice.

I use a Scotty Studio Style 1.5... Love the smoother neck without offset and I will never let that one go. It's got way too many great memories in it. I am considering another 1.5/2.5 to see about a heavier one... but love the one I have!

Not sure on the mallets, the last time I used one of those it was a Futura potato masher.
  15. I have both mallet and blade putters but I always seem to fall back to my Newport 2 Teryllium. I loved the look of the new JET SET Newport 2 and gamed it for about 3 months before eventually going back to my Teryllium. I think the mallet putters help with alignment but I am more of a feel player.

I use a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Oil Can finish. Love that thing. Used it for the last 15-20 years. I like the classic putter look. Can't get myself to like many of the mallet styles.

Newport 2 for me, probably take this one to the grave I reckon, it's that good.

Have you ever thought about getting fitted for a putter?

I have a bunch of Scottys and I prefer my small/mid-mallets. Anytime I think about switching, I always practice with the new putter side by side with the current putter to compare and see if the switch needs to be made. Currently gaming my 5MB but switching between it and a Delmar and a Flowback 5.

My kid switches between his Newport 2 and his Phantom X 8.5 but he has to pass a "putting test" with me to switch.

Really, it is just like anything else, comfort and lots and lots and lots of practice and in-person lessons.
