I played blades for years, tried mallet (didn't like the look) and didn't work for me. I settled on mid-mallet. Golo 6 for last 7 years.

I used a Odyssey two ball putter for a few years I really putted well with it. then I got an Anser and my eyeline was much better and now I game a Newport 2 for the last 8 years. So for me it was making sure my putter face was square & my eye line was the same. So flat on both sides I think helped with the visual for me. Mallets have a many different shapes on the back end I tend to look at instead of the forward side.

    Just my thought for me,
    Good Luck

I have two Newports (original and 2.5), but I have to admit my love for the old Bull's Eye--probably due to all the putt-putt I played growing up. Still, I just don't like the look of a mallet putter and will doubtfully ever be in possession of one. I just like more classic-looking things.

I have always been a Newport blade player. But recently I have considered the x5.5. In a perfect world I would love to go to the SC Gallery and get fitted, but COVID has changed a few of the way things work. It is hard for me to pull the trigger on a putter unless I really get to use it in play.

My switch is between a blade and mid-mallet, but what I've found is it really translates to my confidence. Whatever I can roll that gives me the most confidence or if I need to switch or change things up -- my stroke can adapt.

So if I think I might need to change things up, I take them both to the practice green, go through my routine with both and choose what makes me feel the most confident over the ball.

    Nothing bigger than Delmar head.

Definitely, a blade (Newport) guy. The mallets just look and feel different. But, I have never really used one for an extensive period of time.
  8. I think it’s mad how different the shape of a putter makes. Looking down at address a lot of people love the confidence of a mallet but a lot also like the simplicity of a blade which can also inspire confidence because they like the way it looks.

A mallet is more forgiving than a blade, relatively speaking, and will somewhat diminish imperfections in the putting stroke. That said, for me personally it's how a putter appeals to me visually, along with confidence at address, and how the putter actually feels in my hands.

I have 4 Scotty's; 2 blades and 2 mallets.Although I ended the year with a blade in the bag (1997 TeI3-Santa Fe Two), I'll probably switch back to a mallet (GoLo "S" center shaft)when our season starts up here. The greens in late March in New England are a little crusty, so the mallet might be more suitable.

I use a mallet (Scotty 6M) and have a used a mallet since I got "serious" with golf. I find that the look and feel of a blade doesn't suit me. I'm all for doing whatever you want if it makes you feel better on the course (within the rules and etiquette, of course).

I just wish they would make a mallet cover for the Club Cameron each year (or be able to pick at order)!
  11. I wouldn’t mind trying the phantom. I just can’t get enough of my Newport 2.5.

  14. I've been playing that exact putter since 1998. I always get caught up in the new releases, so I have several Newport 2s that I've bought and tried through the years. But nothing feels as good as my TeI3!

I also have more than one Scotty. A California Del Mar, a Newport 2, and a Red X from back in 2004. I switch them based on the type of greens and the speed of the greens. Home club I like the Newport based on usual condition of the greens, quick. Bermuda and down South more toward the old Red X, and slower greens the Del Mar. The Newport and the Del Mar have had the weighting adjusted accordingly, while the Red X is only customizable by sending it back to Scotty. All are the same shaft and length (36") and the same grip, Matador. Worked well for me for years

  17. I have always played better with a blade putter, it is what I have always played even growing up as a kid. I've been using my Scotty Newport and it is perfect for me. But I do like the benefits of a mallet when I have tested them.

I think it purely comes down to preference, but when you find the 'one', there is no better feeling and it instantly gives you confidence to hole a putt.

I am of the opinion there are two views as to putters.
There are those who have multiple putters and rotate between them whenever one of the putters goes cold and needs a break.
The other school is to live and die with one putter and rarely change.
I am part of the second group and have only ever used 1 of 3 putters my entire golfing life. I had a old brass putter that I used in my teens and twenties. In my thirties I got a Scotty Cameron Del Mar that I used into my fifties. I am now in my sixties and have used a Scotty Cameron Futura X for the last ten years or so. I play about 100 rounds a year and maintain an index around 1 or 2 so it seems to work for me to choose a putter that fits your stroke and just practice with it until you get the results you want.

I have had the Del Mar for years now. Fits my eye and the mid mallet is a happy compromise between the two styles.
