  1. Bob,
Try as I might, I’m still not conversant on the whole subject of grind in wedges.
HELP. What parameters apply to each variant of grind?
    Kevin
  2. How much does grind matter to your average golfer? Does lie matter as well? I’ve always played irons 1 degree upright but I’ve never had a wedge that was upright.

The wait is over. SM8 is officially available in golf shops!

Talk about a hot start. SM8 has been the worst kept secret with record-setting adoption on the PGA TOUR, European Tour, and Korn Ferry. In its first 12 TOUR events, SM8 has already brought home 7 titles. 48% of the wedges at this week’s Bay Hill Invitational are Vokey Design and last week 57% of wedges in play at the Honda Classic were Vokey, including the winner: Sungjae Im.

So what exactly is this secret sauce that has SM8 making so much noise on tours? For starters, you can find a lot of great SM8 insights on the Vokey website. But what better way to learn about SM8 than asking the man himself?

Please submit your SM8 questions below and we'll have Bob Vokey dive in to answer your questions on Wednesday, March 11th.

What a great feeling shaft. I hit the sm8 and the feel of the shaft was great. How do you determine the right shaft for your wedges? I hope to own 48,52 and 58 degrees. I am saving now!! THANKS Bob for understanding all of our quirks!................
  4. Hi Bob im I'm a 20 hdcp can you tell me how the new SM8 would help my game?
  5. Mr. Vokey, what setup of types of wedges do you recommend, in terms of the spread of degrees, for a high (+20) handicapper vs a mid handicap (9-17)? I am actively improving and have gone from +30 to 19 in the past couple years and think an upgrade in my wedges would be a good investment.
    Thanks for answering.

With my current putter, I feel comfortable pressing my hands forward before striking the ball. I thought it would help my ball roll better. With the putter design today, is that something I should keep doing or should I stop?
  7. I have had the SM6 wedges and the SM7 Wedges and I liked the 6's better, do the SM8's feel more like the 6"S?
  8. Bob,
What are the pros and cons of using a Vokey instead of a setted pitching wedge, e.g. a 46 degree Vokey versus a T100 PW?
    Thanks!
  9. Bob,
I was fitted for the SM7s with the proper bounces. I am a single digit handicapper who plays a lot of golf (and practices). I know it is a tough question, but how do I determine when the wedges need to be replaced ? Thank you,
    Jack

How important and how much research goes into the process of the materials selected to make each club? We always hear about the grooves and the shafts, etc but never much about the materials used on wedges. I would love to hear about this process, thanks!!!

What aspects of wedge selection are consistently overlooked by amateurs?
  12. There are so many options when choosing a Vokey wedge, lie, loft, grind etc. How do everyday players like myself figure out which options are best ? I can read all the different attributes of each wedge setup but is there a simple way to choose ? Also I currently use SM6 Vokey wedges and was wondering what the advantages of upgrading to the new SM8 would be? Thank you time and contributions to the game of golf.
  13. Hey Bob!

I’m still playing the SM6’s and after two years they still feel ‘clunky’ and new to me. I’ve lost strokes in my chipping game and I’m thinking about exploring other wedges.

How much effort have you put into the SM8’s to make them spin more, feel lighter and more balanced and streamlined?

    Thanks for your time!

I have an old 58 SM wedge, pre-numbered, that’s just a magic wand but I can’t find a 58 with a K or F grind anymore (if I have the grind correct) in 8 bounce. Are they actually available or any plans to market them? Thanks

I play in the Midwest mostly public courses. I’ve had TVD wedges, and now have SM6. What’s the biggest advantage I’ll see being fitted for the SM8?
  17. How frequently should you replace your Vokey wedges or how many rounds played?
  18. Mr Vokey,

I play in many different conditions throughout the year and I’m looking for the best wedge setup to cover multiple course conditions. I carry 4 wedges in my bag. 46, 50, 54, and 60°. I struggle to find the best bounce set up, especially with my 54 and 60 since I often have found many public courses have inconsistent bunkers. My go to club is the 54°10 but I have been flirting with higher bounce to help in soft conditions with both the 54 and 60. I can’t seem to find a bounce setup that is best. Please help!

    Thanks,

    Dan

  19. Hi,
i currently carry 3 wedges, 50,54,58 they all have the lowest bounce available, i play up in the northern part of the country and there are alot of clay based courses.one of my mates told me i should get a higher bounce in my 58 for sand shots. but i use it alot around the greens too. is there a grind that benefits both shots in the lob wedge.?

Thanks Bob for everything you do for the game of golf.

I play the 718 ap2’s, PW 46, so I play 50, 54S and 58L. There is no 58L sm8 and I’ve tried the M grind and just didn’t work for me. It stuck in the ground and that’s crazy because it 8 degree instead of 4, but i can play that L grind anywhere and I live in Nebraska pending the time of year with weather conditions being wet or dry.

I don’t want the 60L, too high of loft. I’m a sweeper, but why can’t I make the M grind work? But, I can do anything with the L. Thanks Bob!!
