Less than 50 you can count me out. There are other things I can do rather than be uncomfortable on a golf course. There are plenty of decent days in the Dallas - Fort Worth - Arlington area.

I'm a little spoiled for golf temps as I live in Houston, but I find it hard to golf in less than 50*. Even in January our average high is 60*, so I can be really picky on the days I want to play since I don't play super often.

Frozen greens and tees when it drops below 40 really lessens the golfing experience. Need to be sure to take plenty of tees and a punch. The precut two or three holes for cups get pretty shaggy after a couple of weeks. Just saying.

Living in Mid Michigan, if the course is open we are playing, with the exception of pouring rain. Being retired we don't have to play in the rain anymore, but we'll finish a round if we're caught in it.

I'll play in the low 30's if the wind is down. Played 8 of the last 10 years on New years day, missed one with heart attack on the 29th and this year it was 22* and 25 mph winds. That's just too cold. But we do as best we can here in the nations capitol.

One of the days that I played last week here in the St. Louis area, it was 33 degrees, but I managed to get a round in, thanks to good thermal wear!

I live in Tennessee and as long as the management will let us play we play. 30 degrees was the lowest so far this year. Approach shots were like hitting into a trampoline. It’s fun to adjust your game in different conditions and see how good you can still score. Buy good base layers and get outside!!

I am willing to play as long as the course is open. That eliminates days that are below freezing. I’ve played several rounds in the 30s and as long as it is not too windy the day isn’t too bad. I just need lots of layers.

I will plan play below 40 if sunny and no wind.

I'll tee off at any temp providing the temps get at least above 42-45 degrees during the round or near the end of it. The Kansas wind can cut thru you at anything below 50 degrees but are worse when around 40 or less. So I prefer at least 42-46 degrees as a playing temp during winter months

I will play as long as they let us out. The course closes down, if it freezes over.

Playing in December in Minnesota is a treat. However, if the temperature isn’t telling you the season is over, the course conditions will. The ground itself is already frozen. My friend brought a cordless drill to make the hole to tee up the ball. Would the drill be considered the 15th club?

It's not the temperature as much as the wind. And here at the Jersey Shore It's windy most of the winter. Having said that, we still layer up and play. Frozen greens make you play shots you wouldn't even think of in warmer weather. It's a challenge. Scores really do not count, so let your imagination run wild. Great post Rick!

Some of my memorable rounds growing up took place in December and January. Playing a dogleg par 4 that went around a frozen pond gave you the opportunity to drive the green by playing your tee shot across the ice! In Montana there were many years that I would play all 12 months.

I live in Pa and I try not to play if the weather is cold enough that I'm worried about my driver and woods cracking because of the temperature

As long as the course is open, I play. When it gets below 40, I wear plenty of layers, and use a cart cover and heater!

Here in South Central Michigan if there is no snow and the frost is off the green, about 34 degrees, it is time to get a round in!

I used to have a 50° limit. But, I found that if the high was going to be 50°, game on. And, I found I was teeing off at 32°. So, the limit went out the door. If the course is open, I’ll play.

Have to say that 40 degrees is generally the cut point, but it really depends upon other factors (such as wind, sun or precipitation) which could cause the number to go up or down.

I play in cold Pennsylvania weather in low 30s temperatures. The wind is a big factor. If it is windy and cloudy, it is not enjoyable. I dress in multiple layers without getting too bulky where my swing is affected. If the ground is hard, thats good for distance, and sometimes you can get a lucky break with frozen water hazards. Make sure you have good footing on frozen ground so you dont spin out and get hurt. I switch to Tru Softs.
